Following nearly 2 decades working as a telecommunications line-worker on both U.S. coasts, Chawn made the decision to leave and commit his energy to serving the region through photography. As a native of Upstate NY, Chawn learned his mastery of digital photography by photographing the area’s lush, summertime terrain, stark, contrasted winters, and world-class sunsets. However, it was from his experiences adding human subjects into his images that he became completely intrigued with Portraiture and the subtle complexities of human expression.
As technology progressed and the use of Social Networks and Internet Media became pervasive, Chawn saw that Commercial Industries, Small Business Leaders, Entrepreneurs, and Job Seekers alike were in tremendous need of strong, unique, self-defining images to separate them from their competitors in the marketplace. Primarily, Chawn began to perform this through Headshots, though he’s also created unique ways to apply the same principles to the architectural, product, and environmental portrait needs of his clients; all under the term he frequently refers to as: “Personal Branding”.
As Chawn continued to define his work through the use of unorthodox angles, heavily saturated scenes, and a meticulous understanding and application of technology, he discovered the work of Peter Hurley; arguably the world’s most renowned Headshot Photographer. Chawn began to learn under Peter Hurley’s direction, to include attending specialized workshops, challenging portfolio reviews, and various conversations directly related to Hurley’s most unique gift: understanding and capturing human expression. While Peter Hurley may be best known for his work with Actors, Performing Artists, and Celebrities, Chawn set out to translate that style into one that fit the Personal Branding needs of his business clients. Focusing less on “Range of Expression” and more on “Coaching and Encouragement”, Chawn now provides the CNY Region with a studio that stands alone in it’s ability to generate images that are both technically exceptional as well as personally unique to the individual.
Chawn’s work has been used by public officials, senatorial candidates, non-profit organizations, several marketing campaigns, and several book covers for various authors. He makes frequent appearances in local schools to inspire students interested in photography careers, as well as providing advice to graduating students as to how to maximize their public exposure through Social Networks when entering the job market.
Currently, Chawn Crawley Photography operates a fully equipped studio in Fulton, NY and services the entire CNY Region to include performing his work on-site whenever needed.
